The Challenges

Hundreds of teams from across the South East region will audition for The Edge, but only the best eight will make it through. Those eight will compete in five challenges, each concentrating on a specific skill or area of enterprise.

Team Building

1st November 2006

Challenge one was an adrenaline-fuelled physical challenge to kick-start the competition. Teams had to bond quickly to discover each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. It was also the first chance to come face-to-face with the other teams.

Understanding People: Sales and Marketing

Deadline 10th November 2006

Challenge two saw teams transferring the skills learnt in challenge one to an equally demanding corporate environment. In this exciting deadline-driven challenge, teams developed practical sales and marketing skills while testing their abilities to remain focused and creative under pressure.

Making Money, Making a Difference

Deadline 17th November 2006

Enterprise is by no means all about business – challenge three asked teams to see how they could make a difference to a social or environmental issue. Teams first learnt how to manage money, and then they chose a social enterprise to work with for mutual benefit.

Time for Action

Deadline 29th November 2006

For challenge four, teams were given a tight deadline to organise a project or event. They had just a week to decide on a project, invite guests and then do everything necessary to make sure it all ran smoothly.

The End Game

8th December 2006

The final challenge brought together all eight teams for the last time, to pitch their business idea to a panel of business experts. Teams needed confidence, team-working and creative flair to impress the judges and rack up those all-important points.
